SHRINKING HIMALAYA GLACIERS--It was in the news that the glaciers are not vanishing from the Himalayas. As per my personal experience which I observed from last three decades that the Himalayan glaciers are shrinking and vanishing very rapidly. The examples are Bara Shighree, Kakti, Linger, Shithi, Mooling, Gurdhar in Pangi and Famous Kangla Glaciers in Mayar valley are definitely loosing their status . The Kakti glacier is just above the village Goushal in Lahoul .The annual accumulation of snow over this glacier is almost zero and the melting rate is very high. One can see the change in color and size of this glacier. The finding of dead bodies of trekkers in Kangla Glacier during 2004 , who were died in 1981( after a period of 23 years) clearly indicates the vanishing of Himalayan glaciers. Similarly the finding of air crash debris near Bara-Shighree glacier is another example.
